Chapter 3 - "Questioning our hope"

We were about to have a happy moment but fate said otherwise. Lauren told us that guards had set a time limit to finding the jewel. Now, we had to find it in 5 days. The thought about what would happen if we didn't get jewel gave me shivers, I didn't want to know, all I cared about was getting the Jewel. And let's just say things didn't exactly go how we planned them. First, Jade got super sick, and ran a high fever. Then, I twisted my ankle. We were going through a pretty hard time. Lauren decided that we should rest for a bit and then continue our journey since it was getting pretty dark by now. We tried to find a place to spend the night and then found a place that was made out of rocks, it felt very much like home, I felt safe, the place was like a giant auditorium and we were the stars. Jade felt asleep pretty quick, and I'm guessing it was because she was tired from all that crying and walking, and then crying again. I tried to sleep but had a rather hard time to. I kept shuffling back and forth, and changing positions over and over. I eventually woke Amber up. "What's going on, you okay?", she asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine", I lied.
"Really", she was reading my mind again.
"Well, what if we don't find the jewel, and stay here forever? I mean, aren't you worried about not seeing your family again?", I asked
"You see, when I was 5, my parents, died in a car accident, and I was the only child, I lived in an orphange afterwards, and I kinda just gave up on life, at least I have a mission here to keep my mind off of my sad life", she said.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know about-", she stopped me.
"It's fine, we should go to sleep, let's not wake the others up", she whispered.
"Okay", I replied. The next few hours were a blur, I kinda just fell asleep afterwards. Lauren woke us up in the morning, and as part of my usual life, I asked for 5 more minutes. But I soon realized that I I had to get, we only had 4 for days left. Jade woke up and started crying, probably because she was hungry. Amber got us some sandwiches that she had brought with her, and gave jade her milk bottle. She was happy after that. Lauren told us that the guards had weapons, and were getting closer.
"Great, what now? I mean ever since this journey started, I have heard nothing but life threatening, sad, depressing news, what do you have to say about that", I asked her, "sorry,I didn't mean to be rude, I'm just very scared".
"I know how you feel, and I accept your apology, don't worry, we'll find that jewel",she said. She sounded like my mom, which I missed more that ever.
