Chapter 2 - "Starting the Journey"

Chapter 2:
Starting the Journey

Then after 5 non-stop hours of endless crying by Jade, we realized that maybe we should find a way to take her to her parents. We called for Lauren, and she arrived. She connected a call between us and the other world. Jade’s tears were like the Niagara fall all over again. She just would not stop crying, I didn’t get it, and she had her parents talking to her, right in front of her. But she kept crying. Lauren told us that she had figured out a way to get everything back to normal, and why this even happened in the first place. She told us this was happening because of the “cycling”. This happened every 100 years. People would get separated and they were not told why. But who was doing this to us, and why? Lauren said that all we had to do was get the jewel of Cranes. But no one knew how this jewel would help us and where it was, we just knew that we had to get it. So, we started on our journey to find the jewel. Jade was about getting better at feeling at home when a big bird scared her. It was beautiful and was white with big blue eyes, and was as big as 5 school buses, stacked on top of each other. “WAIT! They aren’t supposed to be here, what’s with that”, I yelled out loud. Amber was looking at the bird as if she was examining its every move.” It’s a crea manta, we don’t get those here a whole lot, but don’t worry, they won’t hurt you, they are carrier birds, they will only help you”, she assured us. Amber whistled and about 6 crea mantas arrived. They let us get on there back, and we took off. I have to admit that it was better than walking with a toddler that was crying. They view was to die for, literally, if you fell from that high, you would probably be dead. Lauren was in the lead, to tell the crea mantas where to go. We landed in a place that looked like a dessert. I was like, “really, a dessert, come one now”. But Amber assured me that we would find the jewel and everything would be fine. I got to say, that girl has a knack for making people feel better. We were probably walking for about what seemed like 3 hours, but the watch proved it had been 1 hour. I told everyone that we had to take a break and relax for a while. “Quick question, where are we going? I mean, this dessert is like a never ending dessert, where the heck is the stop?” I asked.
“Shhhhhhh”, said Lauren, “I hear something”.
“Oh, what now?” I whispered so quietly that no one could hear me at all. Amber and the others were listening so closely and were so still, I could’ve sworn they were statues. “Lauren, you okay? what’s up, what do you hear?”, I asked.
“I hear the guards that guard the jewel, they are coming toward us, but they are very far, I would say about 7000 miles”, she told me. I was wondering how the heck she ever heard that so far away, but decided it was better not to ask, but then I remembered Amber telling me that the only people that could hear that were the ones with very pure soul. I guess I was happy that someone like Lauren was guiding our way. I was happy that everyone trusted her and she loved us, but this happy moment did not last long....
