I heard the leaves falling on the ground,
But didn't notice the the storm.
I saw the wind swirling around,
And lost the feel of warmth.
I felt the rain agaist my skin,
But forgot the force of water.
Mistook a forest fire for a little spark,
The air kept getting hotter.
I lost track of the storm behind me,
Started thinking I was safe.
But my eyes had closed to the clouds turning grey,
And my guard was down again.
Saw sunlight through the cracks,
I rushed to be out of the dark.
But I found out that it wasn't an escape,
It was yet the start of another "spark".
I fought through it all with an ounce of hope,
That the raging storm had once overcome.
I stepped outside of all the destruction,
And realized that I was already home.
