World Championships
I had my martial arts world championships on July 18th. I had been waiting for this day since March after Nationals, in fact I even had a countdown app for this that told me the world championships were how many days, hours, minutes, and seconds away. On the 17th, when we left for Nashville, Tennessee ( that's where the championships were), I started getting nervous even though world championships were a day away, I didn't eat dinner very well that night either. My parents tried and tried but breakfast was also out of question. The resort where the championships were being held was hugh, it had boating inside of it, it had a mall inside it, it had beautiful view especially during the water and music show. I was so nervous. My palms were sweaty, my heart was beating like a thousand drums, and my mind was too impatient to wait for the outcome. Then, when nervousness was at its peak, I saw my teacher, Ms. Lawson. Her loving hug was all it took to make me smile again. There was something about her that just gave me more hope, she was the best. My little brother had his competition first, he did great. He got gold for having the best blocks. We went over to the agility course after his competition because mine was way after his. The agility course was very tough for people 12-15, in which I categorized. There were hurdles that you had to jump over, there were boards, that were very far apart( well for me anyway) and you had to jump from one to the other without touching the floor, there was also was target pad, which was at least three feet taller that me, and I had to kick it and not miss, even my jump kicks weren't that high, and that's just half of it. But I got one min and eleven seconds as my record. Then we went to my competition, and boy was I scared. I was in the masters invitation which meant I was competing against all gold medalists from previous championships. There was a girl who was very tall and when I walked in, she made a face at me like " she is so short, I'll take care of her". I got mad but kept it unnoticeable. Then we stretched out and then we did forms. I got a 12, which I noticed was the highest score, the second highest was a 9, so it looked good. Then we did sparring, my weakest thing, I didn't exactly win it it, all the other girls were so taller than me, my kicks went only to their shoulder. Remember the girl, that sneered at me. She was so overconfident, in sparring she got kicked at she started crying. When it was time for the medal, I got gold in forms in the masters invitational!!! And mean girl got nothing. The judge told us the the rest of us basically made history, because we were the first blue belt girls in tiger rock history that competed in the masters invitational and got medals. Only four girls out of all of them got medals, and I was gold!!!!!We headed over to take pictures with the grandmasters. I got to be with the highest ranking grandmaster because I got gold. Then we went over to board breaking, the line was long, but my teacher and my parents waited for me the whole time. I had been working on my #3 front kick for a long time and was scared for it, I had 20 seconds to break 4 different types of board breaks. I broke the sidekick, then I got to my front kick, I concentrated, and I broke it!! Ms. Lawson and my parents cheered the loudest. My parents believed in me and so did my teachers. My parents had helped me this whole time and made me feel better, they are the best parents in the whole world ever. When I got to my #2 sidekick, I didn't break it, but then I broke my elbow smash. I broke 3 out of the 4. I got silver!! I went over and thanked my parents and teacher for believing in me. I was so happy. Me, my brother and my parents went for fro-yo and took a break until it was time for the finals. Ms. Usa, a black belt in taekwondo was there too, so was a singer Nate Evans, another student in Tkd, was there also. The finals were awesome, the demo team from Alabama was the best. Then they did black belt forms and sparring. They were awesome. Finally they called up the agility challenge winners, my brother got silver, I was so happy for him. Then they called all gold medalist from the masters invitational. I went on stage with some other people and we got a standing ovation, I went to world championships very nervously and came back making history in tiger rock. I was so happy, and proud of myself and my little brother. I couldn't have done it without the help of my parents and my teachers. I was so so so happy. And I know that in the future, I won't win every championship, but I'll know I tried, because I will.
